The E46 M3 has many technical highlights such as double VANOS - infinitely-variable timing control on both intake and exhaust camshafts, individual throttle butterflies for each cylinder with drive-by-wire throttle control and M Dynamic Driving Control, which allows the driver to select a 'sport mode' for the throttle, providing quicker response to throttle inputs. After an extensive development program on the E46 M3 the 25bhp increase provides a good improvement in top end power with a much needed increase in mid range torque eclipsing the power and performance of the CSL variant. We develop all of our software on the rolling road to ensure accuracy in terms of both power delivery and also to ensure fuelling, boost pressures and exhaust gas temperatures are all within tolerance. Our aim is for maximum power whilst maintaining optimum reliability.
